Irene L. Olson Pederson, 83, of Mondovi, passed away Friday, March 12, 2010 at Luther Hospital, Eau Claire, WI.
She was born on April 16, 1926 in Money Creek, MN to Harley and Edna (Gjermanson) Sholes. She wed Elmer A. Olson on March 8, 1952, in Winona, MN. He died in 1998. On March 24, 2000 she married Walter Pederson in Wabasha, MN.
She was a trained dancer and during WWII was in a USO dance troupe.
Irene was an exceptional seamstress, and had an upholstery shop with Elmer in Kasson, MN for many years. She worked at Ashley Furniture, Huntsinger Farms and Faribault Foods.
She graciously volunteered her time and talents with many. She will always be remembered for her extensive creative talents in needlework, art, and as a doll doctor, as well as her acrobatic and other dance abilities.
She was a member of Central Lutheran Church and its ladies organizations; American Legion Auxiliary, Mondovi; and a past President of St. John's Lutheran Church Guild, Kasson, MN.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Pederson; three children, DuWayne (Joan) Olson of Roscoe, IL, Dale (Mary Ellen) Olson of Fairport, NY and Shelly Olson (fiance Robert Keisler) of Durand; eight grandchildren, Jason Olson, Jeffery Olson, Neka (Nicholas) Pawelko, Amber (Drew) Gensamer, Ariana Olson, Claudia Olson, Jerimiah "J.J." (Miranda) Schultz and Nathan Schultz; six great-grandchildren, Alexis, Hailey, and Natasha Olson, Nadia Pawelko, Ira and Ellis Gensamer; four siblings, Gladys Harrison of Eau Claire, Glenn (Evelyn) Sholes of Winona, MN, Virginia (Gordon) Gullickson of Lanesboro, MN, and Mabel (William) Kortsch of Riverside, CA; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceding her in death were husband Elmer; parents; and five siblings, Gertrude, William, Ruby (Lilla), Orrin, and Anna Sholes.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 1:30 PM at Central Lutheran Church, Mondovi, with Rev. Rolf Morck officiating. Burial will be at Oak Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 17, 2010, 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home, Mondovi, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
