BARROW Virginia Murray Tilton, 76, wife of John Parham Barrow, Jr. passed away Tues, Dec 12, 2006 at her home in Lexington after a long illness. Born in Lexington, KY, she was the daughter of Janet McVey and Harry B Tilton; and granddaughter of Dr. Frank L. McVey, former president of the University of Kentucky. Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Caroline (Collin Boyd) and Lucy (Scott Calhoun) of Lexington, and BB (Spike Pearson) of Denver, CO; six grandchildren, Olivia, Emma, Katherine, Leland, Nicholas and John Rollin; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Frank McVey Tilton, M.D. Mrs. Barrow graduated from the University High School, Lexington; and the University of Kentucky. She was a resident of Lexington, Kentucky and Windermere Island, The Bahamas and the former co-owner of Barrow Reeves Interiors and former owner of Ashwood Ltd. Antiques and Interiors. She was past-president of the Lexington Junior League, Lexington Garden Club and Colonial Dames of Kentucky; co-founder and former director of Living Arts and Science Center; former director of Amberly Place, Cerebral Palsy, Child Development Center, Land and Nature Trust, Lexington Concert and Lecture Series, Lexington Planned Parenthood, Liberty Hall Historic Site, UK Art Museum and Sulgrave Manor (England). She was Treasurer of the Florence Crittenton Home, former board member of Lexington Ball and Chairman of the Bluegrass Charity Ball, and first chairman of the Blue Grass Trust "Christmas in the Park." Mrs. Barrow was a former member of the Arts and Letters Society, Colonial Dames of America, Garden Club of America, Iroquois Hunt Club, Keeneland Club, Idle Hour Country Club, and Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Recently, she established the Virginia T. Barrow Professorship in Brain Disease Research at UK and is a UK Barker Fellow. Visitation will be held in the First Presbyterian Church, 4-7pm, Thurs. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to UK, c/o The Virginia T. Barrow Professorship, 343 Waller Ave., Suite 205, Lexington, KY 40504. www.milwardfuneral.com
