She was born Saturday, November 16, 1912, in New Matamoras, OH the daughter of Dudley T. Racer and Dollie Bird Racer. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Elsie Clark, and brothers, Virgil and Sherman Racer.
Freda married Beryl H. Hammett, who preceded her in death in 1989. They had one Daughter, Berylann who married Richard Lewis of Parkersburg, WV. She had two grandchildren, Jason R. Lewis, of Portland, OR and Faith B. Lewis of Parkersburg, WV.
She was a graduate of Tyler County High School, and Mountain State Business College. She worked in the House of Representatives in Charleston, and was County Clerk of Pleasants County for 40 years retiring at the age of 72 in 1984.
Freda was a member of the Pleasants County Women's Club, BPW and was treasurer and member of Grace Episcopal Church in St. Marys for many years.
She was active in politics and was a member of the Democratic Women's Club.
The family requests that memorials be given in her name to Marietta Hospice 210 N. 7th St. Marietta, OH 45750 and the Grace Episcopal Church 317 Riverside Dr. St. Marys, WV 26170.
There will be no visitation and graveside services will be Saturday, March 6, 2010, at 11:00 am at East Lawn Memorial Park in Reno, Ohio.
