February 8, 2012 note from Lynda Duncan Miles, "John was one of 8 Children born to T. J. & Mariah. They were farmers and ranchers in Liberty Hill, Williamson County. John had gone up to Mills County to work cattle on a ranch in Payne Gap when he became gravely ill with complications from measles, which turned into pneumonia, a friend of John's rode on horseback from The Williams Ranch area to Liberty Hill to tell Thomas Jefferson Duncan, Sr. that his son was very ill. T. J. got on his horse right away, and rode as quickly as he could to check on his son. He didn't know exactly where he lived as John had moved there for a temporary job, so T. J. would stop along the way, asking different people. He finally came upon a man (John's neighbor) who told T. J. that he was too late, that John had died and they had buried him the day before.
"He left behind a young wife and 2 year old daughter, Addie Marie.
"SPOUSE: Cordelia Caroline 'Delia' Epley 1862 – 1931, married in 1880; (Find A Grave Memorial # 10746963)
