Leslie F. Mellott, 79, of Fairington Court, died at 3:40 a.m. Sunday, June 8, 2003, at Columbus Regional Hospital. He was owner of a mowing service and a former CarQuest employee. He was a member of Gen. George Patton's 3rd Army during World War II and one of his battalion's four survivors of the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Mellott was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, a former member of several camping clubs and enjoyed fishing. The funeral will be at 6 p.m. today at Vernon Jewell–Nick Rittman Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Yeaton officiating. Calling will be from 4 p.m. to service time today. Burial will be at Florida National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana and Friends of 4–H. Mr. Mellott was born May 5, 1924, in Elkhart, the son of Abraham and Inez Morrison Mellott. He married Shirley Morrison on June 4, 1971. Survivors include a daughter, Kristina Whipker of Columbus; grandchildren Katrina Whipker–Brumley, Tricia Ritz and Troy Whipker; and six great–grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on July 26, 1996; and several brothers and sisters.
