Kurt David Knapp, age 28, of Kerrville, Texas, died on Saturday, May 8, 2004, in a San Antonio hospital.

Kurt was born on Oct. 8, 1975, in Prescott, Arizona to J. Dudley Knapp and Lois Imojene Huckstep Knapp.

After graduation from Tivy High School in 1994, Kurt attended Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas, and Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, receiving his bachelor's degree in criminal justice. Kurt then went to Homer Garrison Memorial Training Academy for the Texas Department of Public Safety in Austin, Texas, graduating in 1998.

As a state trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Kurt was stationed in Ozona and Fredericksburg. He married Jennifer Whitworth on Aug. 15, 1998, in Kerrville, Texas. He was more than a state trooper, he was a wonderful father, husband, son, and a good friend to many.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, member of the DPSOA and the TSTA.

Kurt is survived by his wife, Jennifer Knapp and mother, Jeannie Knapp both of Kerrville, Texas; father; J. Dudley Knapp of Prescott; grandmother, Lucille Viaing of Clear Lake, Calif.; daughter, Makayla Knapp; son, Wyatt Knapp; sister, Joy Hafer and husband, Curtis of Prescott; father-in-law, Jack Whitworth of Brady, Texas; mother-in-law, Connie LaFrance of Austin, Texas; brother-in-law, Nic Whitworth and wife, Ursela of Round Rock, Texas; nieces, Savannah Hafer, Lilly Whitworth, and Mary Rose Whitworth.

The family received friends on Monday, May 10, 2004, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Grimes Funeral Chapels.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at First United Methodist Church, with Dr. Warren Hornung officiating. Interment to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery with honors being provided by the honor guard from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Pallbearers are Nic Whitworth, James Salaz, Kevin Vreeland, Justin Baker, John Stafford, Curtis Hafer, Michael Likin, Larry Watson, Luke Flores, Wesley Bean, and Ryan Bean.

Honorary pallbearers are Jason McMurray, Keith Olive, Kevin Wright, Cody Cory, Carl Mayfield, Earlie Williams, John L. Henderson, Bruce James, Todd Ross, Todd Jennings, Norbert Ortiz, Michael Knight, Steve Brockman, and Charlie Howell.

Memorial remembrances may be made to the Kurt Knapp Memorial Fund, Security State Bank, 1130 Junction Highway, Kerrville, Texas, 78028.
