A wedding of interest in Graham, Texas was of Miss Julia Eloise Morrison to Homer L Thornton on 3 May 1927 at the Presbyterian Church. The church was decorated with ferns, smilax, and cut flowers while burning white tapers in white candelabras. C.C. Hampton accompanied on the organ by Miss Dorothy Hudson. The groomsmen, Joe H. Morrison, brother of the bride, Phil Huey, Frank Thyng, C.P Gregory, Norman Stovall and W.D. McFarlane, entered first, followed by the bride's maids, Mrs. Finley Scruggs, sister of the bride, Miss Betty Clyce, Miss Annie Lucille Morrison, Louise Graham; the matrons, Mrs. Verne Adams Garrard, Mrs. W.D. McFarlane. The bride, gowned in heavy white satin with a veil of real Duchess lace, and carrying real orange blossoms, a gift from a neighbor, Mr.s Hamilton. She was met at the altar with his best man, T.O. Deats. A very impressive ring ceremony used by Rev J.C. Hines, pastor of the Presbyterian Church. She preceded him in death.

Homer Lee Thornton married Ada Tennyson Jones in Graham, Texas. She preceded him in death.

Services for Homer Lee, Thornton, 92, were held at the First Presbyterian Church in Graham.

The groom moved to Graham, Texas from his home in Northrup, Ohio, where his parents live. Mr. Thornton was one of six children. In 1917, he joined the US Navy and served until the end of World War I.

H.L. Thornton moved to Texas in January 1919 from Ohio with an oil company settling first at Ranger, Texas. In July 1920, he moved to Graham, Texas to enter the insurance business, which he continued through the yeas. Mr. Thornton founded the Graham Federal Savings and Loan Association in October of 1934, serving as secretary for many years. He was associated with the business until his retirement in 1983 He owned and operated the Thornton Insurance Agency, now part of Mann Insurance. He was ruling elder in the First Presbyterian Church for many years. He was the third president and charter member of the Graham Rotary Club and a member of the American Legion. Mr. Thornton had lived in Graham for 64 years before moving to the Presbyterian Village in Dallas in 1985.

Survived by one son - Homer Lee Thornton, Jr.; one daughter - Gillie Ragle; two step-daughters; five grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters.
