Gaffney, SC - - Dorothy Lawson Blanton, 83, formerly of Jackson Street, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Peachtree Centre. Born in Cowpens, she was the widower of the late Walter W. Blanton and the daughter of the late Rev. R.L. Lawson and Bessie Mabry Lawson. Mrs. Blanton was a homemaker and a member of Beech Street Presbyterian Church. Surviving is a son, Billy Dean Richards, Sr. and wife, Cathy of Gaffney; a daughter, Judy Blanton Allison and husband, Danny; two brothers, J.W. Lawson of Gaffney and Dean Lawson of LaGrange, GA; three sisters, Betty Jean Spencer, Mary Byers and Diane Richardson, all of Gaffney; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and two special nieces, Peggy Barnes and Martha Cooper. Mrs. Blanton was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Spencer and Bobby McSwain. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Blakely Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Draytonville Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Keith Harrill and Rev. Scott Kierstead officiating. Memorials may be made to Peachtree Centre, 1434 N. Limestone Street, Gaffney, SC, 29340. The family will be at the home of Billy and Cathy Richards, 24 Bo Lane.
