OBITUARY - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN)

Jack Curless, 86, of rural Wabash, Indiana, died at 3:36 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Wabash County Hospital. He was born August 30, 1921 in Banquo, Indiana to Earl and Grace (McKinley) Curless. He first married Jeannette Crouch; she died March 19, 1978. He then married Martha (Dibler) Schaus on December 31, 1981 in Wabash; she survives.

Mr. Curless was a member of and former president of Diamond X Saddle Club, a member of Lincolnville United Methodist Church and the Teamsters Union. He was a truck driver 40-1/2 years. He had driven for Alsbaugh and Unger Trucking Companies, and retired from Brown Trucking in Wabash. He loved his horses, his dogs, and working outdoors. Jack was an avid IU basketball and Chicago Cubs fan.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Curless of Wabash; two daughters, Ellen (Robert) Ogle of New Haven, and Marlene (Roy) Quinn of Urbana; four stepdaughters, Linda Conner of Monticello, Cathy (Robert) Schmalzried of Wabash, Nancy (Jan) Blocher of North Manchester, and Ruth Ann (Tim) Ranck of Wabash; two sisters, Louise Ruch of Sweetser, and Verna Purdy of Effingham, Illinois; his brother, Albert (Marge) Curless of Columbia City; 16 grandchildren, and 34 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Melissa Rice officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery. Friends may call 4-8 pm, Tuesday, July 1, at the funeral home. Preferred memorial is Lincolnville United Methodist Church.
