Robert Anderson "Taken from the files of Troy Messenger, 1889."

"One of the oldest men and earliest residents of Pike County is Mr. Robert Anderson who lives five miles from Troy on the Orion Road. He was born in Georgia in 1809 and has reached his fourscore years. He came to Pike in 1833 when it was a wilderness. In 1839 he was married to Miss Eliza Riley and together they raised a large family. She has been dead for some years and all his children but two predeceased Uncle Bob across the dark river. In 1834 he connected himself with the Baptist Church and for 45 years has proven his faith by his walk and his example has been for good to the youth of the land.

He was a soldier in the Indian War being a member of a company of volunteers commanded by Captain Cooper and Lieutenant Blake Justice and was in the family battle fought with the Indians near Hobdy's Bridge in Pea River Swamp."

The next paragraph is how his health has failed him, he is an invalid having been stricken down some years ago by paralysis .. "he bears with Christian resignation and fortitude."

His daughter is Mrs. Lex (Elizabeth) Barnhill who cares for him with her husband and children.

This must have been written shortly before his death on August 22, 1889, Pike County, Alabama.
