He resided at 2813 Elmwood Avenue, Rochester, Monroe County, New York prior to the war.
George's B-17 was shot down and crashed near Macquenoise, Belgium during the war on February 8, 1944 and he became a Prisoner Of War.
George was "Shot and Killed" while a POW of the German Army. It is currently unclear if he was trying to escape or was simply executed. POW's 1st Lt. Robert J. Benninger and Sgt John Pindroch were also shot and killed on this same day. He was awarded the Prisoner Of War Medal and the Purple Heart.
Sgt Colwart and T/Sgt Kahler both were "Killed In Action" in the crash of their B-17.
His brother, 2nd Lt. Richard J. Eike, was also "Killed In Action" during the war and he is interred next (see photo on the right) to him in Arlington.
