Funeral services for Lt. Col Frederick W. Eggers III, 53, former Two Rivers man and son of former president of the F. Eggers Plywood & Veneer Co., who died Thursday night in Walter Reed Army Hospital, Washlngton, D.C., will be at 9 a.m. Monday at the Rinaldi Funeral Home in that city. Burial will be in the Arlington National Cemetery, Va. Col. Eggers who had been in the service since the mld-1930s and as a youth received military training at Culver Military Acadamy Culver, Ind., had been stationed in Washington, D. C. for several years after a long period of service in the Far East, where he received citations in World War II.
Born in Two Rivers in 1905, a son of the late Frederick W. and Agnes Doolan Eggers, Col. Eggers attended the public schools of Two Rivers. He was a student at Culver Military Academy but returned to Two Rivers and was graduated with the first class from Washington High School in 1923. He was active in the Reserve Officers Assn. in the early 1930s while employed at the then F. Eggers Veneer Seating Co. of which his father was president. In 1935 he was called into service, remaining until his death.
He was assigned to the Pacific Theater of Operations in 1942 with the rank of major. He received a bronze star medal for meritorious service in direct support of combat operations in China. Following the war, in 1946, Col. Eggers moved his family from Two Rivers to Shanghai, China, where he became stationed with the U.S. Army Security Control Section, remaining there for a number of years before he was assigned to duties in Washington, D.C. Early in August, Col. and Mrs. Eggers spent several weeks in Two Rivers, residing in one of the Galecki cottages on the Point Beach State Forest Road.
Besides his wife, the former Molly Rhea Cobb, a native of Memphis, Tenn., whom he married nearly 25 years ago, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. John Bohanan of Indianapolis, Ind., Winnifred of North Carolina; a son, Frederick Eggers IV of Louisana; two sisters, Mrs. A. F. Struck of Manitowoc and Mrs. George Kroner of Webster Grove, Mo.
