Daniel Weese filed on a tract of land in Edwards County in 1878. Then he went back to Iowa and in March of the next year, he and his family landed at Kinsley. The homestead was in Section 26, Township 25, Range 17 and he also took a tree claim in the same section.
Daniel Weese was born in Allen County, Indiana, June 22, 1832. He married Margaret Huett. Their children were: James Monroe; Maria, wife of M. T. Ingraham of Edwards County; Thomas J. of Cochise County, Arizona; Daniel F. of Edwards County where he died leaving a family; and George W. of Cochise, Arizona.
In the general election of 1880 Daniel Weese, Trustee, assessed Franklin Township for the first time. In 1882, Mr. Weese was elected Justice of the Peace and for many years was the only law between Pratt and Kinsley.
James M. was a young man and helped his family out by working for The Santa Fe Railroad as a section hand at Hartland. He lived at home untll 1886, when he married Miss Mary McCarter, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin McCarter. They came overland to Kansas in 1884 and homesteaded near the Weese family. They were the parents of five children. M. T. Ingraham and Maria Weese Ingraham were parents of Bertha Ingraham who married William Welsch who became parents of Ella Welsch.
