CROCKETT NEWSPAPERS 1853-1896 Feb. 7, 1890 census of Houston of 23,000 people. Houston Co. has ample lands to produce 500 gal. of syrup per acre. Few counties can beat that. Farmers are taking advantage of this spring-like weather. Weldon church bell arrived, no excuse for not attending church. The young people of Nevel's Prairie have organized a literary club. T.V Goodrum among others visited the Courier. T.V. was also at the paper Feb. 24, 1890.
Nov. 28, 1890 T.V., L.O. Goodrum & A. J. Knox were in town the past week from the Weldon section of the county.
May 29. 1891 TRIAL TO BE HELD Tomorrow (Friday) an examining trial will be held before Justice Pritchard of eleven prominent citizens in the Southwestern part of the county on charges of conspiracy to murder Ben & Van Goodrum, living near Weldon. The parties are all under bond to appear & witness summoned. Street talk has it that the citizens charged with the offense conspired together for the purpose of hanging the above named parties, that they started for the purpose & finally abandoned the program from persuasion of outside parties & division in their own ranks as to whether they should hang one or both. (Guess the trial went in the Goodrum's favor??)
