Ensign A. W. Ames, USNRF, was designated Naval Aviator #67 in 1917. Served in France during the First World War. Resigned from active service in 1919 with rank of Lieutenant.

Entered active service in 1942 as a Lieut. Commander and was released in 1945. Retired with rank of Captain, USNR in 1954.

Was an original member of of the First Yale Unit of Naval Aviators.

Son of Allen John and Blanch (Bressler) Ames.
