Chico Enterprise-Record, September 30, 1994:

"Montie Barnes. A service for Montie Keith Barnes, 87, of Chico, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Bidwell Chapel. He died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 1994, at his home. Barnes was born Jan. 23, 1907, in Chico to Frank and Alera Barnes. He attended Clayton grade school in Chico; then Chico Trade School and Chico High School.

"During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the Fourth Armored Division. He fought in the "Battle of the Bulge" and received a presidential citation. He also received military honors from the VFW Post No. 1555 of Chico.

"In 1954, he married his wife Carolyn. Barnes was employed by Dick Anderson and later worked for Diamond Match and the Reynold C. Johnson Ranch. Memberships included Knights of Ipythisis and VFW in Los Molinos. Barnes enjoyed reading western writings, playing pinochle and bingo, and cracking walnuts.

"Survivors include his wife, Carolyn of Chico; a daughter, Willie Barnes Cosgrave of Corning; and one grandson."
