Obituary – The Plymouth Democrat, 29 Dec 1910.

Mary E. Severns was born in Coshocton county, Ohio, January 10, 1830, and died at the house of her son James B. Severns, Dec. 20, 1910, aged 80 years 11 months, 10 days. She came with her parents to Indiana in an early day and was one of the oldest settlers of this township. She was married to Isaac Severns in the year 1851. To this union was born eight children namely: Josephine, Artensa, Nancy Lodel, James B., Amos, Milla, Albina and Walter. Josephine, Artensa and Milla died in infancy. Her husband, Isaac Severns, died Feb. 10, 1867. She was again married to John Kay Dec. 10 1868. To this union was born one daughter Irene, who died in infancy. She was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist church for about twenty-five years, and always attended church services when her health would permit. She suffered a stroke of paralysis last Sunday morning about 1 o'clock and at times was conscious and conversed with those about her bedside.

Just as the sun was sinking to rest last Tuesday evening her spirit took its flight to God who gave it. She was tenderly cared for during her last illness by her son James B. Severns and wife. She leaves to mourn their loss, three sons, namely James B., Amos and Walter, and two daughters namely, Nancy Lodel and Albina, twelve grandchildren and twelve great grand-children, besides a host of devoted friends who sadly miss this beloved mother and friend.

The funeral services were held at the church at Tippecanoetown Thursday at 10:30 o'clock and attended very generally by the people of the whole neighborhood and surrounding district, conducted by her pastor Rev. Newton Gilliland. Her remains so tenderly and beautifully cared for, were laid in the Tippecanoetown cemetery to await the resurrection of the just.
