Dorothy Eleanor Adams, resident of Austin since 1953, born to Weaver Porter and Mildred Josephine Williams November 5, 1922 in Montgomery, LA, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 10:00 p.m. with her five children at her side. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, John William Adams of Indianapolis, IN, veteran of WWII; beloved sister, Madeline Elizabeth Erwin of Montgomery, LA; and dearly beloved grandchild, Terri K. Brittain. Eleanor is survived by her five children, Wendi M. Adams of Austin, TX, Diane K. Brittain (Chuck) of Round Rock, TX, John Q. Adams (Mary) of Austin, TX, Sherry M. Bice (Craig) of Victoria, TX and Patsy A. Garza (Tony) of College Station, TX; and nine grandchildren: Penny Brittain, Lissa Adams, Megan Adams, Clark Bice (Julie),Tyler Bice, Jason Tilby, Brooke Tilby, Chad Tilby, Garrett Garza; two nieces, Margie Waughtel (Doyle) and Anita Howald of Indianapolis, IN; and first cousin, Louise Pratt of Corpus Christi, TX. John and Eleanor married September 4, 1942 and settled in Indianapolis, IN where their first three children were born. They moved to Austin, TX in 1953 where their last two children were born. They very soon became active members of Crestview United Methodist Church. Eleanor retired from the Texas State Attorney General's Office. Since moving to Austin, she soon became a loyal fan of University of Texas sports, especially football and men's and women's basketball. The family wishes to express very deep gratitude to the management and staff of the Pflugerville Care Center for the tireless and loving care given to our mother/grandmother for so long. It takes very special human qualities to give good care to those who cannot care for themselves. Special thanks to Lighthouse Hospice nurse Cherie Adams, and aide, Pam, whose love, care and support for the family was invaluable. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jason Tilby, Chad Tilby, Clark Bice and Tyler Bice, as well as beloved family friends, Mr. Steve Short and Mr. Kelly Cloud. Honorary pallbearers: Penny Brittain, Brooke Tilby, Garrett Garza, Lissa Adams, and Megan Adams; Mr. Foster Smith and Mr. Robert Ward. Visitation will be on Friday, February 26, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar, Austin, TX. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home. Burial Services will be held afterward at Austin Memorial Park cemetery, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, TX 78731. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association , Crestview United Methodist Church, American Diabetes Association , the American Heart Association or Lighthouse Hospice.
