June E. Amos, 83, of West Finley Township, died at 11:20 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 2010, in Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg, after a battle with a cancer-related illness.
She was born August 22, 1926, in West Finley Township, a daughter of the late Okey Ellsworth and Alma Florence Raymer Sprowls.
Mrs. Amos resided in the West Finley area all her life. She was a 1945 graduate of the former Claysville High School.
She was an active member of Nebo United Methodist Church, where she was serving as secretary at the time of her death, and a member of the former United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Amos enjoyed cooking and was proud of her ability to do so, which she shared with her church and community. She also enjoyed gardening and the time she was able to spend with her family and grandchildren.
She was a former adult leader with the local Brownies, Cub Scouts and 4-H Club.
Mrs. Amos was last employed as a cook at Graysville Elementary School in West Greene School District for more than 40 years, prior to retiring in 1996.
On October 9, 1945, she married Glenn Irvin Amos, who died December 30, 1994.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol Joan, wife of Paul Neely of Proctor, W.Va., and Robin, wife of David Archer of West Finley Township; a son, Roger L., husband of Mary Jane Amos of Ashland, Ohio; four grandchildren, Tiffany, wife of Thomas Morgan, Hilary Amos and Benjamin and Joshua Archer; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are two sisters, Jane Salsbury Gray and Betty Porter, and a brother, Ray Sprowls.
She was the last of her immediate family.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in Rush Funeral Home Inc., Rogersville, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 21, with Pastor Nelson Boone officiating. Private interment will be held in West Finley Cemetery.
