Mongolian Politician. He served as the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the People's Republic of Mongolia from March 24, 1939 to January 26, 1952. He initially studied to become a Buddhist monk but later ran away and worked in odd jobs. He later became a communist after living among the Irkutsk in Russia and co-founded the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party in 1920 with the goal of resisting Chinese rule in Mongolia. His forces went on to fight against the Republic of China and the White Army during the creation of the Mongolian People's Republic, making him a party hero. From 1929 to 1930, he served as Chairman of the Presidium of the State Little Hural. In 1936, he became a Marshal of the Armed Forces. During the late 1930s, he was one of the architects of the "Great Purge" in his country, and this led him to obtain the nickname "Stalin of Mongolia." Over 35,000 people were killed during this time. Three years later, he became the Chairman of the Council of Ministers (or prime minister) and went on to lead the country until his passing in 1952. In 1949, he broke with Stalin due to Stalin's failure to support his dream of a "Greater Mongolia," and he rejected Yumjaagiin Tsedenbal's suggestion of following in the footsteps of Tannu Tuva in entering the USSR. He died of cancer.
