Civil War Union Army Medical Surgeon. He was an Union Army surgeon fresh out of medical school when he arrived at Ford's Theatre after President Abraham Lincoln was shot. The first medical man on the scene, his quick efforts temporarily saved President Lincoln's life, which allowed Lincoln to live until the next morning.
