UTAH- Demarious Ann Carter (Newkirk) Artz passed away Thursday from an illness.

Demarious was born to the late Frank Elijah Newkirk and Opal Ellen Carlton Shearer. She was married to Charles W. Carter until his death in 1995 and was survived by her husband Paul W. Artz.

She was a graduate of Needles High School and was an accomplished artist.

She loved to exercise, ride her bike and modeled her physical health after Jack Lalayne, logging hundreds of miles on her bike.

From her early days as a Sunday School teacher in the Methodist Church through her conversion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she always talked and taught faith.

Demarious loved color and she was taught to oil paint by Nellie Howell.

In addition to her husband, Demarious leaves four sons and their families, Marvin and Shannon Carter, Charles and Linda Carter, Frank and Shandy Carter, and John and Karen Carter; eleven grandchildren, Marvin, Cari, Dustie, Amber, Scott, Chessie, Parker, Roxanne, Christopher, Daniel and Kristina; and five great-grandchildren, Dani, Mason, Kyle, Matthew and Mitz.

In addition to her parents and first husband, she was predeceased by three siblings, Vonceil Young, Neil Newkirk and Kenneth Newkirk, and two newborn siblings.

A private gathering of family was held in the home of Paul and Demarious, followed by a public graveside service in Logan Cemetery, North West Corner, Utah. A memorial service to be held in Needles, California at a later date.

Allen Mortuaries of Logan and North Logan directed arrangements.
