David Elmo Alsbrooks Sr., 82, of Russellville, Ala., died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, at Spry Memorial Chapel, with burial in Knights of Pythias Cemetery. Officiating at the funeral will be Dr. Gene Balding.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty King Alsbrooks; parents, Henry Edward Alsbrooks and Sarah Fore Alsbrooks; brother, H.E. Alsbrooks; two half sisters; and four half brothers. Pallbearers will be family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Mavis Bishop Alsbrooks; daughter, Patricia Greene and husband, Larry; son, David Elmo Alsbrooks Jr. and wife, Teresa; brother-in-law, Kenneth Bishop and wife, Eulene; sisters-in-law, Patsy Sauls and husband, Ron, Sandra Marlow and husband, Charles, Betty Jean Alsbrooks; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews. He was a member of Russellville First Baptist Church for 73 years and a member of Masonic Lodge 371. He loved to play golf, hunt quail and garden. He was a World War II veteran, serving in Normandy, Ardennes, Rhineland, Northern France and Central Europe. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge and HQV Corps. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Russellville First Baptist Church Building Fund. Spry Memorial Chapel, of Russellville, assisted the family.
