Lucretia was schooled in a convent in her early years.

Miss Lula Key, who worked and lived here in Sandersville as a young lady, was joined by her mother, Mrs. Key, from Augusta. Mrs. Key, who was a widow, bought some land on North Harris Street in 1885 in what was then a cotton patch and built a one-story frame house. Before the house was completed, Lula F. Key was married to Robert Mitchell Brown on 22 Jul 1885 in the parlor.

Lula and her husband Robert were the parents of nine children:

3. Robert Mitchell, b. 21 Mar 1890, d. 27 Jan 1975

5. Henry Wiley (Hal), b. 19 Jan 1895, d. 17 Jan 1935, m. Callie Barbara Hardage, b. 22 Dec 1900, d. 3 Sep 1985

6. Maria (Marie) Harrison, b. 4 Aug 1896, d. 29 Mar 1978, m. Alexander Hugh Peterson, b. 1895, d. 1957

7. Nell Mae, b. 22 Feb 1899, d. Apr 1980

Mrs. R.M. Brown, 83, Passes to Beyond

Mrs. R. M. Brown, 83-year-old Sandersville resident, died Sunday afternoon after an illness of several years.

Mrs. Brown lived in one of the two homes in this city which dates back before Sherman's march and which was left unburned at that time. She was only two years old at the time of that event, when Sherman is reputed to have made his headquarters in her parent's (in-law) home and when he moved on he left his overnight "carpet bag" with a few personal belongings in it behind.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning, with a large number of honorary pall bearers: Judge evans, C.A. Shealy, W.A. Bell, R.O. Bonnell, C.W. Rawlings, T.J. Swint, Charley Whiddon, Harvey Woodall, Dock English, E.C. May, Dr. N.J. Newsome, Dr. F.B. Rawlings, Dr. B.L. Helton, Weston Doolittle, Lee Joiner, Pierce Wood, B.J. Tarbutton, L.B. Holt and Charley Parker.

Four relatives from out of the city served as active pall bearers: J. Phillips Adams, D. Baron Oxner, Walter W. Sheffield, Alex H. Peterson; together with Newsome Summerlin and C.A. Adams.

Rev. R.C. Brown, assisted by Rev. E.G. Orahood, conducted the funeral services from the Sandersville Baptist church. Interment was made in the Old City cemetery. the Sandersville Funeral Home was in charge.

Mrs. Brown leaves one son, who is engaged in the printing business here, R.M. Brown; two daughters in this city, Miss Marie and Miss Nellie Brown; three other daughters, Mrs. J. Phillips Adams, Columbia, S.C.; Mrs. D. Baron Oxner, Edgefield, S.C.; and Mrs. W.W. Sheffield, Atlanta.

She is also survived by four grandchildren, First Lieutenant Phil Adams, serving in German, Miss Francelle Adams, Phm. M. U.S.N. Robert Mitchell Brown, Dahldren, Va., and Hal Brown of Vernon, Texas.
