ALFRED G. HEER
Alfred G. Heer was born to Christian C. and Alvena M. Heer on April 29, 1918, in Estrella near Paso Robles, Calif.
He was an active member of First Mennonite Church, Paso Robles, teaching high school Sunday school and serving as church chairman for a number of years.
He served as president of the California Fellowship and was a member of the retreat committee for many years. He helped establish Camp Keola.
He served as the first lay president of the Pacific District Conference (GC). At the time of his death he was a member of the PDC home missions committee and of the General Conference general board. He also served as vice chairman of the campaign committee for the Call to Kingdom Commitments of the General Conference and as congregational campaign chairman for the Call to Kingdom Commitments.
In 1942 he was married to Edna Langenwalter, who survives.
He farmed from the time he took over the family farm at age 17, when his father died, until his death on June 21, 1988. He also sold ranch real estate for many years and was active in community affairs.
In addition to his wife, his survivors include three sons, Walter, Chris and Henry, all of Paso Robles; a daughter, Marty of Lawndale; three grandchildren; and a sister, Elsie Lichti of Reedley. A brother, Irvin, preceded him in death in June 1986.
Funeral services were held June 24, 1988, at First Mennonite Church, Paso Robles, with Tim Kliewer officiating.
