Maria Theresa Ludwig married Michael Adolph Lehmann, who was born in 1764. Michael Adolph Lehmann died in Havelberg, Germany, on June 13, 1820. His funeral was in full ceremony with the church and school participating, and with ceremonial chimes. He lies on the grounds of the St. Laurentius Catholic Church in Havelberg.
In 1849, Maria Theresa Ludwig Lehmann left Germany for Texas with her son and daughter-in-law, Ludwig and Caroline Zeye Lehmann, and their four sons, Carl Ludwig Lehmann, Gustav Adolph Lehmann, Albert Julius Lehmann, and Hermann August Lehmann.
Their ship left from the port of Hamburg, Germany, and the destination was Galveston, Texas. The three-month long journey was difficult, and Maria Theresa Lehmann died making the trip across the Atlantic Ocean. She was given a burial at sea.
Years later, her grandson, Carl Ludwig Lehmann, ordered a memorial marker from Germany for his grandmother and had the marker placed in the Ludwig Lehmann Family Cemetery in Washington County, Texas.
