Born and raised in Groometown in Guilford County, daughter of the late Zachariah Lee Groome and Minnie Armfield Groome , she was educated in the Guilford County Schools and is a graduate of Jamestown (N.C.) High School. In 1937 she graduated from The Woman's College of The University of North Carolina in Greensboro with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education.
After graduation, she taught at Intelligence School, Rockingham County, Efland High School, Efland, N.C. and Bessemer School in Greensboro, N.C.
She retired and married the late Charles R. Coble, Sr., of Burlington and was a devoted wife and mother of their five children. A member of Front Street Methodist Church, she was active in Women of the Church as a circle member and chairman.
She encouraged and believed in the importance of learning and education. She was a life-long learner that enjoyed and excelled in academics. She was known for her graciousness, hospitality, wit, sharp memory, and most of all for her love and unwavering faith in God.
She was preceded in death, by her husband Charles Coble Sr. and her son, John Richard Coble, of Burlington.
Survivors include daughter Ruth Coble Mills of West Hartford, Conn., sons, Charles R. Coble, Jr. and wife Betty, William Lee Coble and wife Annelle, of Burlington, and daughter, Martha Coble Lassiter and husband Randy of Salisbury, N.C., 10 grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren.
Graveside services: Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 2 p.m. Pine Hill Cemetery, Burlington, N.C.
