On August 8th, Bro. Jesse Barton, who was born in Knox county, Ky., January 26, 1839, quietly went to sleep in Jesus. He was a man, upright and noble, a devoted Christian and lived his profession. He was married to Barbara Dempsey thirty-one years ago. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Nugent of Bedford, Ind. He enlisted in the Union army in Laurel county, Ky., August 20, 1861, and was honorably discharged October, 1864. He united with the Baptist church in 1894, in which he lived consistently until death. He was laid to rest in the Freedom cemetery
