Duncan Cameron was the son of Archibald and Barbara (Lyon) Cameron. Duncan Cameron left Canada in 1864 and resided a year in St. Clair Co., Mich and then a year at Richmond, macomb Co., Mich where he learned the carpenter and joiner's trade and then moved on to Ann Arbor, Mich. He resided for several years in Jackson, Ich. where built some very fine houses, six of which he sold. In the fall of 1878, he bought 80 acres of land in Rives Township, Jackson Co., Mich and resided there for three years. In the fall of 1881, he then moved to Bethany Twp., Gratiot Co., Mich and purchased 40 acres. He built a number of residences in this community. When he was a resident of
Aurora, Canada, he married Jennie McKinley. They were the parents of six children, four living: Maggie born April 12, 1868, Gracie May born April 15, 1871, and died in Bethany Twp., April 12, 1882, Minnie Maud born August 2, 1873; Annie Albertha was born June 8, 1876, Arthur A. born January 14, 1879; and Albert E. born April 14, 1880 and died the following August 7, 1880. The first four children were born in Jackson and the last two children were born in Rives Township.

Mrs. Cameron died in Rives Township May 2, 1880 and he married again to Miss Annie B. Grindall (daughter of George and Belle (Furgeson) Grindall) on the following December 25, 1880 in Jackson, Mich. They were the parents of two children; Georgie born Aug 22, 1881 and died Sept 7, 1881 and Frankie born December 31, 1883.
