Mrs. Parish was born January 25, 1931 in Texola, Oklahoma, to the late George Hamill and Lorene (Pennington) Kelley. She graduated from high school in Delhi, Oklahoma in 1948. She entered Midwestern University in Wichita Falls. After earning both bachelor and masters degrees from Midwestern, she attended Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas to complete Library Certification. She taught English and business subjects in the high schools in Samnorwood, Texas and Briscoe, Texas before returning to Wichita Falls. In Wichita Falls, she taught 21 years at Sam Houston Elementary and was librarian at Ben Franklin Elementary for 11 years before retiring from public schools. She then worked at Midwestern University as a supervisor for student teachers for ten years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Texas State Teacher's Association, and the National Education Association.
She and Leon Parish were married in August 1950 at Bridgeport, Texas. Mrs. Parish was an active member of Faith Village Church of Christ until her death. She served in several capacities throughout the years, and ended active service as a librarian for the church.
She is survived by her husband, Leon;
daughter Dianne Parish Wales Browning and her husband Floyd of Wichita Falls;
two sisters, Bobbye Jones of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Joyce Harrison and her husband Bill of Glendora, California; grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorials can be given to the Faith Village Church Library or Hospice of Wichita Falls.
