Obituary
Mrs. Leah Welty Carpenter, wife of Andrew Carpenter, was born near Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pa., December 13th, 1830. She lived with her parents until December 18th, 1851, when she was united in marriage to Mr. Carpenter, and resided in that vicinity until 1855. They then removed to Bureau County, Ill., and remained there until 1865. At this time removed to Livingston County, Ill. There she became a member of the Christian Church and continued in that faith throughout her life. In 1886 they came to Thayer County, Nebr., where they made their home until the death of Mr. Carpenter, which occurred in 1889. Since that time she has made her home with her children. Some years ago she met with a severe fall which greatly affected her health. She was the mother of nine children, six of whom survive to mourn a mother's loss. One brother lives in Iowa and one sister here in Hubbell. She has seventeen grand-children and ten great-grand children. for some time she had been with her daughter in Oklahoma, but had recently come to visit her daughter, Mrs. Albert Murray, where she sickened and closed her eyes to the scenes of earth on the evening of November 23d, 1908. Thus a patient and loving mother has gone to join those who had preceded her. Her remains were conveyed to the M.E. Church where appropriate services were conducted by Rev. McCallister, after which her body was tenderly laid beside that of her husband in the Hubbell cemetery.
