From Holland St. John - 'Frederick (he was always referred to as "Fritz," which was taken from a popular comic strip of the time) was the son of Frank and Ella (Jones) Brown. He was born on June 8, 1899 at Trail, British Columbia. He was raised there and attended school at Trail. His father Frank served as Trail's postmaster for twenty-three years. After graduating from high school, Fritz attended college in Sacramento and his parents in 1924 also moved to California and settled in Oakland. Fritz met Audrey Alva Dixon while attending college and working for a fruit growing company north of Sacramento and were married at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Sacramento. They lived briefly in San Francisco and Calgary,Canada before deciding to settle in Fresco, California where their eldest two girls were born. In 1926 the family moved to Sacramento where their youngest girl was born. Fritz opened a seed and plant store in Sacramento and did well until the banks closed and depression struck. On their seventh wedding anniversary Fritz had his first heart attack which necessitated closing the store. Until his death, some six years later, he was forced to spend much of his time in bed. He did however sell life insurance the last three or four years of his life. He and Audrey had three children: Nanele Fahye, Margaret Joyce ("Peg"), and Hollis Franke. Fritz passed away on March 3, 1937, being only 38 years of age."
