John Thomas Baker, Jr., 96, Spirit Lake, died Thursday, Aug. 11, 1988 at the Hilltop Care Center. Services were 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15 at Turner Funeral Home, Spirit Lake. Rev. Henrietta Klarenbeck officiating. Music was provided by Mary Lou Ayres, organist and Bob Cosens, soloist who sang "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Beyond the Sunset." Pallbearers were Tom Carney, Brian Kelly, Larry Coleman, Mark Coleman, Roy Coleman and Roger Wieck.

Mr. Baker was born Sept. 26, 1891 in Aububon County to John and Minnie (Booton) Baker and moved to Dickinson County in 1907. He married Maude Taylor of Perry, March 6, 1918 at Woodward and they farmed in Dickinson County until 1955 when they moved to Spirit Lake where he worked for the Department of Natural Resources until retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

Mr. Baker is survived by his wife; four daughters, Deloras Gilmore of Spirit Lake, Marjorie Titterington and Ruth Coleman, Arnolds Park, and Bonnie Bushaw of Ogden, Utah; one son, John Baker, Madison, Wis.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and five sisters. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery, Spirit Lake. Turner Funeral Home, Spirit Lake in charge of arrangements.
