Milton Charles Abrams died July 16, 1998, in Logan, Utah, of injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Born November 22, 1918, College Ward, Utah, to George Franklin and Nettie Rebecca Schenk Abrams. Filled a mission for the LDS Church, Northern States, in 1939-1941. Married Lucile Pixton, and they had three children; later divorced. Married Lois Allred, who later died. Married Mattie Ann Robison Callister.
As an officer in World War II, served in the European Theatre and was decorated for valor; also trained troops during the Korean War. As a newly returned veteran, was hired as a high school principal and teacher. An educator all his life, served as Director of the Merrill Library and Learning Resources Program at Utah State University. Retired in 1985, having served USU for 40 years in various capacities, including Chair of the Educational Policies Committee.
Active in civic and political affairs, served for years as chair of the Board of State History, as well as holding county and state offices in the Democratic Party. In 1985, ran for Congress from Utah's 1st District.
Survived by his widow, Mattie Ann Abrams; three children, Douglas (Kathy), Kathleen Ewell (David), and Sharon Jenks (Jack); three sisters, Fern Erickson, Wilma Swenson, and Veloy Swanson; and brother, Marvin Abrams; grandchildren, Guggins, Bim, Nay-Nay, Tados, Pookie, Credible, LuLu, Cam, Bah-Bah, Kissyfir, and Buggy; and two great-grandchildren.
Services Monday, July 20, at 12 noon, Logan 8th Ward Chapel, 325 Lauralin Drive (300 N. 10th East). Viewing Sunday, 6-8 p.m., Allen-Hall Mortuary, Logan, and one hour before services at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family invites contributions to Sunshine Terrace, Logan, Utah, an organization that Milton served for many years.
