Edward George Alger, 89, of Kenyon, died Saturday, February 6, 2010 at his home.

He was born November 10, 1920 in Minot, North Dakota the son of William and Rosalie (Ernst) Alger. Edward graduated from high school in Minot, ND, and entered the United States Army in 1942 where he was a radar operator in WW II. In 1943 he married Margaret Vardsveen in Minot. They eventually settled in Wells, where their children were raised. In Wells, he was manager of Lampert Lumber Yards for many years before he transferred to Sturgeon Bay. He and Margaret then moved to Winona, where he eventually retired from the lumber business. Ed was a life member of the American Legion and he served as Commander of Post 210 in Wells. Edward enjoyed bowling, woodworking and playing sports and games with his family.

He is survived by his wife Margaret Alger of Kenyon, daughter, Karen (and Paul) DeJardine of Sturgeon Bay, sons Steve (Karen) Alger of Kenyon, Greg (Mary) Alger of Wells, Jeff (Sally) Alger of Lakeville, and Dave Alger of Sparta. Sixteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, brother Robert Alger of California, and sister Doris Oen of Minot also survive him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Margaret Benson, and two brothers Ronald, and Arnold.

Visitation will be at First Lutheran Church on Wednesday February 10, 2010 from 1:00 -2:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 10, 2010 at 2:00 PM at First Lutheran Church, Kenyon with Reverend Michael Lockerby officiating. Memorials are preferred to the Faribault Hospice or First Evangelical Lutheran Church. Michaelson Funeral Home of Kenyon is in charge of arrangements.
