Jennie was the daughter of John Jasper Herring and Martha "Mattie" Jane (Cottingham) Herring.

Jennie was born and married in Marion County, South Carolina. That area is now Dillon County, South Carolina.

Jennie married Charlie Gaston Bass on January 3, 1904 in Marion County, South Carolina. Together they had ten children.

Mrs. Jennie H. Bass

Orrum--Mrs. Jennie Herring Bass, 74, of Rt. 1 died Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Leander Lee. Widow of Charlie Bass, she is survived by four sons, Jack Bass of Lumberton, Jimmie of Panama, Worth of High Point, Richard of Fayetteville; three daughters, Mrs. Leander Lee, Lumberton, Rt. 2, Mrs. Hubert Prevatte, Rt. 1, Orrum, Mrs. W.D. Christenburg, Hamer, S.C. Funeral services will be at 3 P.M. Sunday at Prevatte Funeral Home, Fairmont, with the Rev. L.L. Todd and the Rev. Phillip King in charge. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery.


NOTE:
Jennie's tombstone has her birth date as 1888.
In Jennie (Herring) Bass' old family Bible it has written she was born April 2, 1887. My Mom (Geneva) said grandma Jennie was sixteen when she married. I have the old family Bible.
