Elizabeth W. (Betty) Clifford, age 85, formerly of RD #1 Lowell Road, Rome, died Monday, August 23, 1999, in Sunset Nursing Home, Boonville.

She was born March 13, 1914, in Rome, the daughter of Clarke and Mary Hand Wheeler. mrs. CLifford was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and the Utica School of Commerce. On October 16, 1948, she married George W. Clifford in St. Peter's Church. He died May 31, 1985.

Mrs. Clifford was employed at Griffiss Air Force Base for thirty-one years, retiring in 1977, and was previously employed by the Rome Manufacturing Company. She was a member of St. Peter's Church, its Altar and Rosary Society, the Ava Dorfman Senior Citizens, the Westlanders Senior Citizens and was a former member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Lonnie Tomlin, Delmar, New York, Christine and David Adsit Sr., Boonville, Patricia and Stephen Payne, Castro Valley, Calif., one son, Dr. George W. Clifford Jr, Delmar, and six grandchildren, Jennifer Tomlin, Christopher Tomlin, David Adsit Jr., Michael Adsit, Jessica Payne and Hayden Payne.

Funeral will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home. Interment in St. Peter's Cemetery.
