Son of Phineas and Matilda Sensibaugh Headlee.

Private, Company G, 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry. At war's end, the 18th Pennsylvania Cavalry and the 22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry were consolidated to form the 3rd Pennsylvania Provisional Cavalry. John was mustered out with Company C, 3rd PA Provisional Cavalry on October 31, 1865. Also listed as Headle.

Filed for a pension on June 7, 1879, application number 290,552, certificate 217,533. Featured in the 1910 Memorial Day celebration in Waynesburg, Greene County, Pennsylvania. Died on september 13, 1893 in Wise, West Virginia.
