Attorney Shot Down At Airport Dies Later; Suspect Held

EL PASO, Tex. (AP)—A prominent 50-year-old El Paso attorney, Theodore Andress, was shot down Wednesday night as he waited for his luggage at International Airport. He died a short time later in an El Paso hospital of five bullet wounds, one in the head and one under the heart. His assailant was arrested in the airport terminal building a few minutes after the shooting. He had thrown his emptied pistol at Andress' prone body and was unarmed when officer Servando Blanco collared him.

Nearby witnesses said the assailant, identified by police chief Howard Jones as Dr. Harold Eidinoff, a former El Paso physician, walked up to the victim, shot at him, and when Andress fell. emptied his pistol. Jones said that when police arrested Eidinoff, the assailant was wearing a white chauffeur's cap and a black leather jacket. Under the jacket he wore a bullet proof vest. In El Paso Eidinoff, who was described as middle aged, had been in El Paso since shortly after World War II and was a rectal specialist. Andress had represented Mrs. Eidinoff in her divorce action in December, 1955. Andress had just arrived in El Paso from San Francisco. He was elected last October as the president of the Texas Assn. of School Boards.
