A son of Lemuel D. (1815-1887) and Mary Ann Getts Alger. Likely that he and Andrew Jackson Foltz left Page County to evade Confederate conscription. Frederick Alger enlisted on 2/9/1864 as a Private in Company M, 11th Pennsylvania Cavalry. He was Mustered Out on 8/13/1865 at Manchester, VA. He applied for a pension on 2/28/1884, application # 507,160. His Widow (Sarah Alger) applied for a pension on 9/18/1890, application # 438,954
