St. George - Charles Victor Anderson, 89, passed away from natural causes, surrounded by his family on February 3, 2010.
Victor was born Oct. 23, 1920, in Heber City, Utah, to Charles Anderson and Lena "Ida" Sonderegger. He was the third child of eight with four sisters, and three brothers. His early life consisted of attending school and working on a small farm with his family in Heber City.
He served an LDS mission from 1941 to 1943 in the North Western States Mission, which included Seattle, Spokane, Montana, and Idaho. In 1944 he was inducted into the army. During medical training in Denver, he met his wife Beth Andrus (a nurse) from Lyman, Idaho. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on October 24, 1945. Victor continued his tours of duty on a hospital ship, which toured England, the Philippines, and Hawaii. He was discharged in 1946 becoming a Veteran of World War II.
Victor attended Utah State University in Logan, graduating with a BS in Industrial Arts in 1949. Employment included teaching High School Industrial Arts in Pocatello, selling concrete and Rawleigh products, working as a state welfare case worker in Fillmore, and as director for the State Welfare Department in St George from 1958 to1992.
Victor loved the world of Scouting as he served in both the Cub Scouting, and the Scouting organizations. He earned the Woodbadge award, received a 50-year pin for his many years of dedicated service, and was awarded the esteemed Silver Beaver. He loved the boys he served.
Victor loved The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Callings included the bishopric, and a mission with his wife, Beth, to the Southern Utah Visitor sites.
His hobbies included exploring any dirt road he could find, camping, touring caves, visiting State Capitals, National parks, and historical markers, attending World Fairs, and viewing the progress of construction sites including Glen Canyon Dam and the Virgin River Gorge. Friends and family who visited were always treated to the 25-cent tour of the St. George area. He was always building something, including a house and several garages.
Victor was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Beth Andrus, his succeeding wife of 13 years Pauline Jones Andrus, brothers: Ray and Melvin Anderson, sisters: Frenna Mayo and Dona Mahoney, brother-in-law Harry Mayo, and son-in-law Steve Anzalone.
He is survived by his wife, Wilva Anderson, and his children: Dennis N (Peggy) Anderson of St George, Utah, Steven V. (Gretel) Anderson of Syracuse, Utah, Craig D. (Laura) Anderson of Lake Point, Utah, Karla K. Anzalone (Dick) Clark of Beryl, Utah, Brent J. (Brooke) Anderson of Buena Vista, Virginia, Connie (Collin) of Alamogordo, New Mexico, 23 Grandchildren, and 45 Great-Grandchildren.
He is survived by siblings: Rhea (Shorty) Trimble of Heber, Utah, Afton (Meloy) Johnson of Roy, Utah, Ralph (Liz) Anderson of Kaysville, Utah, brother-in-law Errol Mahoney of Heber, Utah, and sister-in-law Annette (Joe) McMurdie of Logan, Utah.
Children of Pauline include: Paula (Evard) Gibby, Les (Cindy) Andrus, and Denice (Dave) Udy all of Idaho. Children of Wilva include: Allan (Susan) Anderson, of Tacoma, Washington, and Susy (Blaine) Epperson of Heber, Utah.

Viewings and Funeral will be held at the LDS Church located at 881 South River Road in St. George, Utah. The viewing will be held Sunday evening, February 7th, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be on Monday February 8th, at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing starting at 9:00 a.m. The funeral will be Victor's final Court of Honor; all Scouters are encouraged to wear their Scout Uniforms.
