Mrs. Mary Petersen Salmonsen, 73, a resident of Alder since 1910, died at 9 a. m. Monday, May 18 at Sheridan Emergency hospital. She had been ill for a year.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p. m. Thursday in the Sheridan Methodist church with Rev. Omer Idso, of Three Forks, officiating. Paul Love was the vocalist.
Mrs. Salmonsen was the widow of Nels Salmonsen, whom she married in 1902. A year later they moved to Dillon and came to Alder in 1910, where they engaged in ranching until 1928. They had nine children. In 1928, Mrs. Salmonsen was employed at the Bert Paige ranch, where she remained until her illness. Her hobby was gardening and growing flowers.

Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Bertha Larson of Sheridan; Mrs. Martha Magnus, of Alder; Mrs. Anna Hunter, of Deer Lodge; Mrs. Mabel Cuilla, of Reno, Nev.; and Mrs. Alice Hinch, of Butte. Also surviving are four sons, Carl and Art Salmonsen of Sheridan; Elmer, of Billings, and Nels, of Butte; three sisters, and three brothers in Iowa, 26 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Interment was in Taylor cemetery in charge of the Marsh funeral home. -The Madisonian, May 22, 1953
