Arlene Burdette, 76, passed away at her home Monday, February 1, 2010, in Burkburnett, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Burkburnett, Rev. Joe Coombes officiating. Interment will follow in Burkburnett Cemetery under direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett.
Arlene was born to Floyd and Edna (Webb) Shafer August 5, 1933, in Wakita, Okla. She graduated from Gore Consolidated #1 in Jefferson, Okla., in 1951, and was a member of Alpha Chi Honor Society at Midwestern State University graduating Suma Cum Laude in 1971. She taught Social Studies at Burkburnett Middle school for 19 years retiring in 1988.
She married Bob Burdette August 1, 1952, in Wakita, Okla. She enjoyed camping with her husband, and loved to sew and knit. She is survived by her mother, Edna Shafer of Wakita, Okla.; two sons, R.D. Burdette and his wife Karen of Burkburnett, Texas, and Mark Burdette and his wife Sheila of Lakeside City, Texas; daughter, Shannan Hopkins and her husband Gayle of Devol, Okla.; brother, Virgil Shafer of Wakita, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Burdette; father, Floyd Shafer; and grandson, Ryan Burdette.
