Merilynn L. Hatch Dalley
March 30, 1933 - March 25, 2000
After an extremely long and difficult illness, in her home at midnight with her husband by her side, the sweetest girl in all the world slipped into the warm and loving light of the realm hereafter.
Merilynn was born to Horace M Hatch and Ethel Ledingham in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her mother, Ethel, passed away when Merilynn was two years old. Horace later married Afton Mabel Blacker and moved to Rupert, Idaho to farm. At nine years old, Merilynn's health problems began with a severe bone infection in her leg. She was taken to Salt Lake City where doctors were able to save her leg and she lived with her dear Aunt Bertha Ledingham Muir in Bountiful.
She attended high school in Rupert, Idaho, where she was selected for girls State, elected to student body office and participated in drama. As a young woman, her soft spoken and low, beautiful voice was put to good use as a switchboard operator. She met the man of her dreams at a church dance who explained that he simply picked out the prettiest girl there. She was first attendant in the Days of '47 pageant. She married Vard Amussen Dalley in the L.D.S. Salt Lake Temple in 1955. She followed her husband through his Air Force career and moved their family of three children around the country and back. She took excellent care of her children during Vard's many overseas assignments. Her insight and compassion were reflected in many church callings which included being a teacher for Seminary, Sunday School, Primary, Relief Society and a piano/organ accompaniest and chorister.
Although her health had begun to decline, she managed the purchasing operations for Weber County Hospital for eight years. Her illness ultimately restricted her to her home for many years, but her radiant smile, kindness and humor were well known thoughout the neighborhood.
Merilynn was preceded in death by herparents, her aunt, and her stepmother.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Vard Amussen Dalley; John Lawrence "Larry"(Diane) Hatch and Loren B. (Shirley) Hatch; sisters, Myrna B.(Gary) Fenton and Karen B. (Max) Serr; children Jay David (Guisela) Dalley, Margo Taylor, and Christopher Lee Dalley; and grandsons, J. Brandon Dalley, Matthew Thomas Dalley, and Rhett Vard Dalley.
A viewing will be held Sunday, April 2, 2000 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road in Layton. The funeral will take place on Monday, April 3, 2000 at the mortuary at 11:00 AM. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:45 to 10:45 AM. Flowers or contributions to the Arthritis Foundation in Merilynn's name can be accepted at the mortuary.
