Dorothy R. "Dot" Kretzmann, age 83, of Valparaiso, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Porter Hospital.
She was born February 14, 1926 in Rochester, MN the daughter of Reinhart and Florence (Ranfranz) Schwanke, and attended Valparaiso University. On November 14, 1948 in Rochester, MN, Dorothy married Victor F. H. Kretzmann who preceded her in death in 2000. Survivors include three sons: David (Jane) Kretzmann of California, Mark (Patricia) Kretzmann of Valparaiso and Chuck (Evelyn) Kretzmann of Georgia; sister, Marjorie (Mel) Stephan of Minnesota; 11 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and infant brother, Donnie Schwanke.
According to Dorothy: "Many people die suddenly still having dreams of traveling, of going on a cruise, of getting that new car or house, of having grandchildren, of having enough money to be able to retire in comfort and still be able to leave something for their heirs. All my dreams have been fulfilled. I am blessed!!"
Dot will be remembered as a faithful and active church member, a good mother, as that grandma who loved to play games, was always there for her grandchildren and made their visits fun and interesting. She had courage to do new things, like traveling alone after Victor died, learning to adjust to being a widow, taking care of all life's challenges, learning technology to communicate with family and friends through e-mail, and bravely facing difficult choices regarding health. She was always very organized, thoughtful, caring and loving.
A funeral service will be held Friday, February 5, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1700 N. Monticello Park Dr., Valparaiso with Rev. Stephen Bongard officiating.
Entombment to follow at Graceland Mausoleum. Visitation Thursday, February 4, 2010 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso. Memorial gifts, donors' choices, preferred to flowers. MoellerFuneralHome.com
