MRS. ELIZABETH BROOKS JEFFRIES
Mrs. Elizabeth Jeffries, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Brooks, was born Dec. 23, 1864 in Illinois City, Ill., and passed away Jan. 2, 1957 at the Baker Nursing Home at the age of 92 years and nine days.
Her mother and father died when she was a child. She was raised by Miss Mary Jane McPherson, an aunt of the Manning children, Addie, Frank and Leonard. They moved to Chariton about 1875.
She was married to Benjamin Jeffries in 1895. They made their home in Des Moines. To this union was born one son, Robert M. She moved back to Chariton in 1899, making her home with the Mannings until Oct. 1947 when she was moved to the Baker Nursing Home.
She is survived by her son, Robert M. Jeffries, of North Little Rock, Ark., three granddaughters, Mrs. Lee Knowlton of Sioux City, Mrs. Eileen Barron of West Des Moines and Mrs. Jeri Martin of North Little Rock, Ark., and three great-grandchildren, Jack and Debbie Barron and Tommy Knowlton.
Mrs. Jeffries was a member of the First Methodist church and the Rebekah Lodge.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4 at the Beardsley Funeral Home. The Rev. Lester Hall officiated and interment was in the Chariton cemetery.
