Gideon Emerson Snyder was born May 12, 1867 in Wanship, Summit, Co., Utah. His parents were George G. Snyder and his 3rd wife, Carolina Kilfoyle Snyder. He was the 6th of eleven children. He grew up in Wanship for many years before moving with his family to Snyderville/Park City, Utah, living at the Snyder ranch at Kimball Junction.
His education and business was as a lawyer, working in the family mining business and as SLC Treasurer among many other positions. He was the administrator of his mother's estate when she died.
He married Florence Pearl Wilkinson who he met while working in Richfield, Utah. They had two daughters, Olive and Rilla, both born in Utah about the turn of the century.
By 1920, Gideon had moved his family to California to the Los Angeles area, where many of his siblings had also moved about that time.
Pearl recorded a lot of family history over the years. Gideon died in California in 1950 when he was 82 years old. He always sent letters and articles back to the Park Record, also recording what was happening with his extended family.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, 2:30 p.m. in Rosedale cemetery chapel, Los Angeles, for Gideon snyder, 82, former Park City resident, Salt Lake City treasurer and prominent in Utah mining circles, who died Sunday after a three-months illness in his Los Angeles home.

Born in Wanship, Summit county, he attended school in Park City, later practicing law in Richfield.

He had served two terms as treasurer of Salt Lake City early in the 1900s.

Retiring in 1922, he moved to Los Angeles. He had previously been associated with several brothers in the mining brokerage firm of W.F. Snyder and Sons in Salt Lake City.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Pearl W. Snyder; two daughters, Mrs. Olive Lippi and Mrs. Louise Haley, Los Angeles,; three granddaughters and three great-great graandchildren; two brothers, George W. Snyder, president, W.F. Snyder and Co., Salt Lake City, and Dr. Crayton C. Snyder, Pasadena, California, and two sisters, Mrs. Zina Sherpard and Miss Jennie Snyder, both of Los Angeles.

Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in Los Angeles condected the services. Burial was in the Rosedale cemetery.
