Pioneer woman, Augusta Kimpton, with seven small children traveled from Hopkinton, NY by train, boat on Lake Erie and covered wagon to Page County in the fall of 1876. Husband, Cornelius, and son, Charles, had built a house, planted crops and awaited their arrival. A watermelon saved for a treat made the entire family ill. Augusta and son, Fred, died.
