The 5th of 10 children born to Andrew James and Mary Adeline Padgett Cunningham, Lida, as she was known, was born in Loogootee, Martin, Indiana. In 1908 her parents and all her siblings, but one - Florence Madden, moved to Onaka, South Dakota. There she was the first teacher in the new town. Here she met another school teacher and married Mason Irwin Chamberlin 1 Jun 1909 in Onaka, South Dakota at her parents house.

They continued to live in Faulk County and raised 8 children:

Dorothy Estelle Chamberlin Hansen
Margaret Mary "Peg" Chamberlin Wurster
Francis Andrew Chamberlin
Rosemary Chamberlin Sadler
Robert Mason "RMG" Chamberlin
Richard Sanford Chamberlin
Elizabeth Mae Chamberlin Imm
Kathleen Jean Chamberlin

After Mason retired in 1957, they took up residence with daughter Peg and her husband in Merrill, Wisconsin, where they lived until Mason's death in 1962. They did travel back to Faulkton in 1959 to celebrate their 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary.

Peg and Betty and families moved to Jacksonville, Alabama about 1965 and Lida went with them. They all lived together including widowed daughter Dorothy and later Richard and Kathleen joined them. A very tight knit family for sure!

Cremated, her ashes are buried at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens and her son Richard with her... his the only headstone. In lieu of a headstone for Lida the family donated a stained glass window in her memory to her church, St. Charles Catholic Church in Jacksonville.
