He was the son of Mrs. Matilda Stroud and was born near Haddam July 31, 1892. He received his education at the Haddam school.
On October 3, 1914 he was united in marriage to Hattie Bellinger. They established their home in the Haddam community. He engaged in farming and stock raising until he was forced into retirement after suffering a severe heart attack on February 14, 1963.
One son, Dean Byron, was born to the Coxes. Following the death of Dean's wife, Lena on March 11, 1963, he and the two children, Joyce and David, lived in the Cox home until March 26, 1970 when Dean remarried.
Mr. Cox is survived by his wife of the home, his son, Dean, two grandchildren, Joyce and David Cox; a step grandhild, Harold, a sister, Mrs. Edna Cole and a brother, Ray Stroud of California and a sister, Mrs. Herman (Faye) Koetzle of Sioux Falls, S. D.
Funeral services were held at the Bachelor Faulkner Dart Memorial Chapel on Saturday, June 29, 1974, with Maurice Grahan conducting. Interment was in the Haddam cemetery, Haddam.
